Art can be in many different forms and each one has some sort of physical motion which develop children’s motor skills. Things like scribbling with a crayon, holding a paintbrush, and holding an instrument are examples of ways the arts can improve a child’s motor skills.

Our next Women’s History Month spotlight is dancer, singer, and actress Josephine Baker. She was the first African-American woman to star in a major motion picture. She also refused to perform for segregated audiences in the U.S. and is noted for her contributions to the civil rights movement.

Our next Women’s History Month spotlight is Diahann Carroll. In 1962 she became the first African-American woman to win a Tony Award for best actress for her role in the Broadway musical No Strings. She is also the first Black actress to star in her own television series, Julia, for which she received the 1968 Golden Globe Award for Best TV Star – Female.

Today begins the celebration of Women’s History Month, recognizing the contributions of women throughout history. Women have made an impact on the world, past and present.

Our first Women’s History Month spotlight is Misty Copeland. She is the first African-American Female Principal Dancer with the American Ballet Theatre. She has received many honors including winning the Los Angeles Music Center Spotlight Award as the best dancer in Southern California. She has appeared in several videos, films, and television shows.

Kehinde Wiley made Black history when he was selec

Kehinde Wiley made Black history when he was selected by President Barack Obama to paint an official presidential portrait, becoming the first African-American selected for the honor. Wiley was commissioned to complete the painting for the National Portrait Gallery.

Saturday, January 14 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm
